Description
Selah Soul – “Real Killer (James 1:13-15)” by Wendy Merritt
Verse 1
She didn’t plan to fall
but the ground was familiar.
It looked like comfort,
smelled like “just one time,”
felt like maybe God forgot her name.
But that voice?
That whisper?
It didn’t come from Him.
That trap was homemade
stitched together from loneliness,
frustration,
old wounds that never healed right.
And in the silence,
she heard the truth:
This temptation ain’t from God.
This fire? It started in me.
Chorus
“Don’t let anyone under pressure to give in to evil say,
‘God is trying to trip me up.’
God is impervious to evil, and puts evil in no one’s way.
The temptation to give in to evil comes from us and only us.
We have no one to blame but the leering, seducing flare-up of our own lust.
Lust gets pregnant, and has a baby: sin!
Sin grows up to adulthood, and becomes a real killer.”
Verse 2
You feel it, don’t you?
That pull when no one’s looking—
the deal you almost made,
the number you didn’t delete,
the habit you renamed “coping.”
But truth?
Sin don’t stay small.
It grows teeth.
It grows quiet,
then loud,
then lethal.
That little compromise?
It’s got big plans.
And if you feed it—
it’ll feed on you.
But God says:
Stop blaming Me.
That war?
It’s in your hear
and I came to win it.
Bridge
But there’s another story
that don’t end in the dark.
There’s another name
whispered in your wilderness.
Grace don’t run from the broken.
Mercy don’t shame the struggler.
Truth don’t trip you
it transforms you.
I see it now… what I fed, what I fought.
But He still calls me daughter
No blame, no shame—just a Savior who came.
That real killer’s been crushed under real grace.
I don’t have to die in this.
I rise..
